Simon Bourne: Decaman

Athlete Profiles, Running, Triathlon No Comments

Simon Bourne is an ultra distance triathlete and triathlon coach who combines his passion for endurance challenges with a job a full time job.

He has competed in some of the world’s toughest challenges including the Ultraman Challenge in Hawaii, where contestants swim six miles, bike 260 miles and run 2 marathons, all taking about a day and a half to complete.

Now at the ripe young age of 47 he will be undertaking undoubtedly his toughest challenge yet – Decaman. A race so gruelling that contests sometimes have to be cancelled due to lack of athletes. Luckily the challenge in Mexico this November has 20 athletes competing, with Simon the only British representative.

Simon will be aiming to break the world record of 8 days and 14 hours, in which he will have to complete a 38 km swim, 1,800 km cycle and 420km run. In preparation for the feet he has been training since July 2011, giving him a full year and a half before the contest in November, and for the remainder of 2012 his preparation will be powered by Orbana Healthy Energy!

Here’s what Simon had to say about Orbana:

“As an ultra distance athlete who races over distances in excess of 1000 miles I need a drink that will not only taste good, but also provide me with a good supply of nutrients and a balanced energy supply that will keep me fuelled up for prolonged periods of time.

“During DECAMAN 2012 I will be racing for approximately 8 days non-stop! I recently used ORBANA in a 33 mile cross country ultra race in extreme conditions and it was simply superb!!”
