From a donated car, to cuts in funding, to battling through the last 6 months with a severe neck problem, It has not been an easy journey for the girl who took up Judo at the age of 10 when she first stepped through the doors of Camberley Judo Club. Widely regarded as the most consistent and successful Judoka in modern times, Karina had collected a plethora of medals from European and World Championships spanning the last 13 years, but never at the Olympics. This is all changed in her hometown on Friday 3rd August at the London Excel Arena.

Defeating the Ukranian, Iryna Kindzerska, in a playoff for the Bronze medal with an ippon – Karina finally achieved what many had believed was an eventuality, an Olympic Medal.

Her professionalism and determination is astounding and she hasn’t ruled out competing at Rio in 2016 and with traits like this, no-one would be surprised if she went one better.
